This painting shows a semi-transparent rectangular piece of gauze or paper leaning against a wall in hues of beige. Holland was born in Glasgow in 1941. He trained at Central Saint Martin's School of Art and Design, London and has been living and working in Cardiff since 1973. He is established as one of Britain's leading figurative artists. Holland has ignored prevailing trends and fashions whilst continuing to develop his own styles and themes. His work is deeply rooted in the traditions of art, often including mythological references. His work is represented in major public and private collections all over the world including Tate, London, The Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art, New York and the National Museum of Wales.
