Sir Michael Ernest Sadler was Master 1923–1934. Best known in his day for his work as an educational theorist, Sadler was also a great patron of modern art: he was among the first Britons to purchase works by Cezanne and Van Gogh, and he filled the Master's Lodgings with his collection.
