Uniform shown is that of the 10th Light Dragoons. Originally attributed to Francis Wheatly, and identified as by Atkinson by W. Y. Carmen (July 1964) who says: "Atkinson produced the 33 coloured plates for 'A Picturesque Representation of the Naval Military and Miscellaneous Costume of Great Britain' in 1807. One of the military plates is precisely the same composition, building, and soldiers as your painting. There are however, minor variations in the uniform but I consider yours to be the original on which Atkinson based his colour plate. The print has been reproduced on page 96 of 'Wellington and Waterloo' by Major A. Griffiths. Newner 1898."
