Thomas Luny was known mainly for his maritime paintings which he exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy from 1780 to 1793. He joined the Navy from 1793 to 1807. This painting was done in 1823 and brilliantly depicts the romance of St Michael's Mount and the labours of the fishermen on the shore.
