This is the first 'St Rognvald', built in 1883. In addition to providing services to the Northern Isles, 'St Rognvald' pioneered the North Company's Norwegian cruise programme in 1886. This proved very popular and the vessel was modified to suit this work. Changes included an extension to the deckhouse, creating a 'music saloon'. In this painting, passengers can be seen promenading on top of the deckhouse. 'St Rognvald' was wrecked in fog on 24th April 1900, during a passage from Lerwick to Kirkwall.
