The steam drifter ‘Lilium’ was built at Fraserburgh in 1913. This painting is unusual in showing the boat while requisitioned by the Royal Navy during the First World War; the boat is flying the White Ensign, while there is a three-inch gun mounted in the bows. The ‘Lilium’ was lost at Methil in 1943 while on government service during the Second World War.
