A group of thirty-two still-life paintings which are signed in monogram AC and were once attributed to Aelbert Cuyp are now attributed to Abraham van Calraet, including this painting which has been inscribed with a false signature. On the grounds of style, it may date from the 1670s or 1680s. There is a comparable signed still life by Calraet in The Mauritshuis.
