This painting depicts a dark interior with a small table along the bottom with a small framed picture, a conch shell in the foreground, and a smaller seashell at the back in front of a mirror and an autumn maple leaf to the right. Along the top edge there is a cupboard and a bare illuminated bulb dangling from its cable. It was painted in the artist’s attic studio and was one of a series of pictures using objects collected from the beaches and riverbanks around Berwickshire.
