Benjamin Eastlake Leader was the son of the artists Benjamin Williams Leader and Mary Eastlake. He was born 17 June 1877 and educated at Charterhouse and Trinity College, Cambridge. In 1910 married he Isabella Anderson of Rosemarrin, Bude. Isabella was the third daughter of William Boyd Anderson, a solicitor from Glasgow. He was killed in the First World War, 12 October 1916. At the time of his death he was a Captain in the 3rd Battalion, The Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment) attached to the 2nd Battalion Duke of Wellington's (West Riding Regiment). His memorial in St Buryan church was designed by the jewellery maker Ella Naper. His name is also present on the memorial at Thiepval, Somme, France.
