This painting depicts the starboard side view of Royal Navy submarine, HMS 'K6', in tumultuous sea. She flies a white ensign and has two black and white funnels and two guns. 'K6' is emblazoned in white on her watchtower, in which stands two naval seamen. Waves are shown crashing over the side of the vessel. It was painted between 31 May 1916 and June 1926.
