A sketch from the 'Ravenspoint'. It shows a calm sea, with waves painted as a rhythmic diagonal across the picture. The waves are painted with a series of short brushstrokes. The sketch is concerned with the visual balance and tonal harmony as well as the contrast between the sea and sky. The sky is bathed with light and this is reflected on the surface of the water in the foreground. Everett sailed in the steamer, 'Ravenspoint', from Liverpool to the Mediterranean between January and February 1935. The painting is inscribed 'Rav Med' verso.
