The Royal College of Physicians moved to new headquarters in Pall Mall East in 1825 from their previous building in Warwick Lane.

The new building was designed by Robert Smirke with windows on one side overlooking what would become Trafalgar Square. The opening ceremony in 1825 was a grand affair attended by princes, dukes and politicians. By the 1920s the College was again looking for a new home. The Pall Mall building was too small and no longer fulfilled the needs of the College. The building was seen more as a mausoleum than the headquarters of an active institution.

It was sold to the Canadian Embassy in the 1960s, who occupy the building (Canada House) today and the College moved to Regent’s Park in 1964.
