This panel shows the moment when Christ rose from the tomb. The Resurrection is a key episode in Christian belief but the idea of death followed by renewal or rebirth is found in countless religions. The sleeping soldiers are portrayed humorously and they wear familiar medieval outfits rather than historically accurate Roman ones. The castellations at the top of the panel seem to be a decorative device rather than an illusion to Christ now belonging in the Kingdom of Heaven.
