The 'Alloa Advertiser', of Saturday 27th July 1895, carried a long report on the presentation of this portrait, mentioning that on it was an inscription that stated that it had been 'Presented to Thomas Chalmers Esq., by a number of his friends, on the occasion of attaining his jubilee in business. July, 1895. Painted by J. A. Ford.'
