Grose matriculated in 1864 and became Fellow in Classics in 1870. He is credited with improving the once hostile relations between Fellows and students which had been a feature of Oxford since the eighteenth century. The artist, Robert Morrison established a successful portrait practice in Liverpool painting local dignitaries.
