Thomas T. Blyth, a solicitor and barrister, was Chairman of the Trustees and Board of Governors of William Ellis School from 1948 until his death aged 76 in 1953. He was the son of Edmund Kell Blyth, a contemporary of William Ellis and a liberal propagandist and thinker, who was keen that Ellis's ideas on education were known and developed. He had been involved in educational reform and in 1889 published a 'Life of William Ellis', founder of the Birkbeck schools. Thomas served with the Army Service Corps in the First World War. He was later chairman of the Legal Aid Committee and during the Second World War was chairman of the South Eastern District Price Regulation Committee. He succeeded his older brother in his William Ellis School roles and was later succeeded by his nephew.
