This is a copy of a painting from the workshop of Tintoretto in the Ca' d'Oro, Venice.

The nine Procurator posts were the most important in Venice after the Doge, and were also for life. They had a variety of responsibilities including for the fabric of the city and facilities for vulnerable citizens such as orphans. There were three categories, covering discreet areas of the city, with the Procuratori de Supra, administering the Basilica di San Marco, being the most prestigious. Vincenzo Morosini was appointed to this post in 1578.
