A two-stepped base provides the foundation for a pillar-shaped cenotaph, which gradually diminishes in width, its 'shoulders' reminiscent of Islamic design principles, until being eventually topped by a carving of an urn and flame. On each side of the rectangular pillar are circular reliefs. On the south-eastern face relief is a depiction of a soldier’s goodbye to his family, the north-eastern showing a soldier carrying an injured colleague.
