A life-sized, full-length statue of Walter Tull wearing his football kit and boots, with his right leg resting on a football. Walter Tull was a professional footballer, the second professional black player in the Football League, who joined Northampton Town Football Club in 1911. In 1914 he enlisted in the army and later became the first black officer to lead British soldiers into battle during WWI. He was killed in action in 1918. This sculpture is part of a series of five statues of historical figures with a strong connection to Northampton, which were commissioned following the popularity of John Clare, installed in 2016.
