A catafalque type structure (decorated wooden framework) built of solid stone blocks, six courses in height with the top course shaped to represent a mound on which a full sized lion sits, facing west. A dedicatory inscription is carved to the front (west) underneath a wreath, with names of the fallen carved into the sides of the lower section. At the time of the survey, new names of the fallen from the Second World War were being carved into the upper section of the northern face. In the last few years, low metal railings have been erected around the base of the memorial.
