A view of West Bay looking east. Bridport Harbour was formed between 1823–1825. It cost £24,000 for 200 men to enlarge the river basin, remove the sluices and strengthen the piers. It became a full port in 1832 and trade flourished until the railway arrived in the late 19th century.
