A square-shaped decorative pillar topped with a wreath on a two-stepped base, the cenotaph, in memorial of the two world wars stands proudly at one entrance to Castle Park.

The south-western face is the only ornamental face of the four, holding a 'relief carving' of a personification of Peace (or, perhaps Victory); a woman, draped in flowing fabric, holding a wreath down by her side and standing on a small stone step bearing the dates of the First World War.

On each side of the column, beginning from the figure's shoulders, floral decoration is carved, encasing, in three sides, the inscription at the top of the column. The first of the steps on the base holds a new addition, an added stone bearing the dates of the Second World War.
