Pitt is the youngest person ever to have been British Prime Minister. He first became Prime Minister in 1783 at the age of 24, having entered Parliament at the age of 22. He was Prime Minister from 1783 to 1801 and again from 1804 to 1806. He died of liver failure in 1806 aged just 46. Gainsborough was one of Britain’s most famous portrait and landscape painters of the 18th century. The original of this painting was completed by Gainsborough. Because of his popularity, other painters copied it.
