William Temple was an undergraduate at Balliol and Fellow of Queen's, 1904–1910. He was a champion of Fabian socialism and Tariff reform, but resigned his fellowship to become Headmaster of Repton School. He was Bishop of Manchester, Archbishop of York in 1929, and Archbishop of Canterbury in 1942.
