A bronze figure of a young girl kneeling, offering water from a cup (now lost). The girl is said to be modelled on the daughter of the sculptor, Leonard W. Winters. His eldest daughter, Elsie, would have been about three years old at the time of its design. The sculpture was executed as part of a drinking fountain made of granite (now separated from the statue). It was erected by the Tottenham Branch of the British Women's Temperance Association, spearheaded by local resident Miss Mary Phillips. The fountain was presented to the people of Tottenham and unveiled on 24th June 1893 by Lady Henry Somerset (President of the BWTA), in Bruce Castle Park. Leonard Winters, a local stonemason, designed and made the drinking fountain and sculpture. His premises 'Winters & Son' at 158 Church Road, Tottenham, overlooked Bruce Castle Park.
