Art UK is a small charity. The vast majority of our funding has come from grant-giving charitable trusts, companies and individuals. We do not receive any regular public funding.
The creation and operation of Art UK has been made possible thanks to the generosity of a large number of organisations and individuals.
Our Founder Benefactors comprise companies and individuals who courageously committed to providing ongoing financial support in advance of Art UK going live.
Following the launch of Art UK, our Benefactors and online donors are now providing vital ongoing support. Our Founder Benefactors, Benefactors and online donors play a major role in ensuring the sustainability of Art UK.
The massive ten-year digitisation of the oil paintings featured on Art UK was funded by thousands of organisations and individuals, some of whose names can be seen here. A few donors made particularly significant contributions: The Monument Trust, Christie’s, Arts Council England, the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.
Art UK is a shared platform for all public art collections across the UK. Some 500 of these institutions contribute substantially to Art UK’s sustainability as subscription-paying Art UK Partner collections. Art UK is pleased to acknowledge the generous support of the Wellcome Trust who have funded partnerships for all UK medical collections.
Our Sculpture project has been funded through a generous grant of £2.8m from The Heritage Lottery Fund, and Art UK has successfully raised the remaining £1m from a variety of donors. These include Arts Council England, the Scottish Government, Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, Stavros Niarchos Foundation, Garfield Weston Foundation, Pilgrim Trust, several other grant-giving trusts and over 70 individual and corporate donors. A full list of funders can be seen here.
All of us at Art UK are hugely grateful to all our funders and supporters.
