Still life

A still life is a work of art depicting inanimate subject matter – typically natural and man-made objects such as food, flowers, plants, books or jewellery. Still life as a genre of painting began in the Netherlands in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.

Although not highly valued by the French art establishment in the early nineteenth century, still life was to take on a new lease of life through the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists, and has remained a popular genre ever since.

Browse still life prints from popular artists such as Paul Cézanne, George Leslie Hunter, Vanessa Bell and Samuel John Peploe – and in a range of styles, from Baroque to modernist. With a variety of subject matter to choose from, find a print that will help you see everyday life in a whole new light.
