More about

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board was created in October 2009 and is one of the largest NHS organisations in the UK. It provides day-to-day health services to a population of around 465,700 people living in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan who need emergency and scheduled hospital treatment and mental health care, as well as delivering care in people's own homes and community clinics. It has nine hospitals and 17 health centres. Whilst neither the Health Board, nor its predecessors, has specifically collected artworks, the recent exercise undertaken with the Public Catalogue Foundation has revealed the number and diversity of art works that are housed in its buildings. We are appreciative of the support that we have received from them to photograph and catalogue our collection, and hope that, through this, the paintings are brought to wider attention and form a starting point for our newly formed Arts Committee to develop further the use of art in our healing environments. Whilst many of our paintings are in public areas, these are all working hospitals and some may be inaccessible without a prior appointment. If you would like to view a particular painting, call Peter Welsh on 02920715698 or email Peter.Welsh@wales.nhs.uk and he will advise on particular paintings.
