More about

The Lyth Arts Society is a charity, registered in Scotland, devoted to education through the arts. It is housed in a converted Victorian village school now known as Lyth Arts Centre, near Wick in Caithness. The collection is an ongoing attempt, begun in 1977, to assemble works of art which represent two areas of interest: the vernacular and the topical. The vernacular consists of works by artist whose lives are associated with the county either through birth or domicile and works which have a bearing on, or depict Caithness. Topical works are those which have been included in temporary exhibitions at Lyth Arts Centre and have been donated by the artists to form part of the collection, or works which have been acquired by the society as a record of the temporary exhibition tradition of representing current fine art innovation or good practice.
