Staffordshire County Council returned management of the Shugborough Estate to the National Trust in November 2016. Parts of the County Museum & Servants' Quarters and the museum displays at Shugborough Park Farm will continue to be open to the public when the estate reopens under National Trust management in March 2017. The County Museum Service has now transferred reserve collections to new, improved stores in the Stafford area. In the longer term, the Museum Service's new base will be as part of the new Staffordshire History Centre which is to be developed on the site of the Staffordshire Record Office over the next few years.
