The paintings featured here are part of a continually growing collection built over decades. A particularly science and technology-based institution, the University of Bath also has a strong commitment to extra-curricular arts provision which has grown into the establishment of the Institute of Contemporary Interdisciplinary Arts (ICIA); a research centre that develops and commissions new and innovatory arts projects as well as a public programme of exhibitions, music and theatre. ICIA manages the University collection as part of this larger programme. New contemporary works often produced as part of residencies in academic departments are added to the collection each year. The arts contribute to quality of life on campus. The University collection, plus three foyer galleries featuring temporary exhibitions, ensure that encountering art is part of daily life for students and staff.
