Wick Town Hall is a Grade B Listed building in the ownership of Highland Council. Its original purpose was that of the chambers for the Royal Burgh of Wick Town Council. The paintings in the Town Hall are a mixture of portraits of former provosts of the town, other prominent persons and some harbour scenes. The collection transferred from the Royal Burgh of Wick’s ownership to its successor Caithness District Council in 1975 and subsequently to its successor, Highland Council, in 1996. Wick has a long history with the sea and many of the paintings reflect this and the importance of some of the eminent engineers of the day who were responsible for much of the town and harbour as we still know it today.
